Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician
I am a consultant gastroenterologist (specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract which includes organs from mouth to the anus). In addition I work as a general physician at North Shore and Waitakere Hospital, and in private at Waitemata Endoscopy and Waitemata Specialists. I am a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Auckland.
Medicine
I grew up in Whangerei, attended boarding school in Auckland and studied medicine at Auckland University.
I started work as a doctor in 2012, and have practiced in Whangarei, Auckland City Hospital including at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit, Middlemore and Tauranga Hospitals, and am currently also working in North Shore and Waitakere Hospital. I completed my overseas fellowship training in tissue resection and advanced interventional endoscopy at NTT Medical Centre in Tokyo, Japan in 2019.
I am the New Zealand Gastroenterology Society Representative for the Asian-Pacific Society For Digestive Endoscopy since July 2020.
I enjoy teaching and am a clinical senior lecturer for medical students at the University of Auckland since 2021.
I am completing a PhD focussing on gastric cancer, starting this research journey October 2024.
I am a current member of the New Zealand Gastroenterology Society and an elected member of the executive committee since November 2024.
I am an elected a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) October 2024.
Patient goals
I believe in a compassionate, holistic and comprehensive assessment of my patients and strive for excellence in providing the very best healthcare. I hold myself to a very high standard and keep up to date with the latest in medical innovation, endoscopic techniques and research. My goal is for patients to feel comfortable to share their concerns, then work together to safely and efficiently diagnose and treat these problems with them.
